A Place that inspired us.

Vidusmeži is a home, a brand, and a space of creative expression that allows to make high quality products - ceramics with character and the added value provided by the natural resources of the Salaca Valley. Hand-built ceramic products inspired by the tones and patterns of nature, with responsibility created in an environment that inspires! In this environment, artists Linda and Rinalds Zelti have been studying clay since 2016. The idea of creating a pottery workshop arose with the desire to move to the countryside. Self-exploration and self-study make it possible to learn more about ceramic art and its endless technologies, allowing one to create their own unique visual identity. Experimentation is a creative process, an integral part that paves the way for new combinations of shapes, textures, and colors. In addition to creating functional ceramics, ceramist Linda Zelta creates research-based contemporary ceramic sculptures, light objects, installations made of clay, firing in various ways in alternative wood-kilns, using pit-firing technology and electric kiln firings, searching for her own visual language to show interactions between nature and contemporary ceramics. The knowledge base was supplemented by studying at the Latvian Academy of Arts Ceramics department, exchange of experience with other artists, group wood-kiln firings with other ceramists, ceramic symposiums, participating in exhibitions, leading the ceramics workshop of Mazsalaca Cultural Centers Craftshouse, and working with all kind of people organizing master classes in Vidusmeži workshop.

In 2024, Vidusmeži Ceramics expanded and now has a workshop in Mazsalaca and a wood-kiln in the countryside.

The new "Vidusmeži" workshop is located at Mazsalaca, Rīgas street 17. It has opened new opportunities for brand development, allowing us to work with new materials (glass, textiles, wood, plaster, etc.). In the near future, "Vidusmeži" will offer an art residence, create a concept store, and a gallery in the premises. In cooperation with artists, creativity enthusiasts, designers, educational institutions, and businessmen from Latvia, Europe, and other continents, we create experiences and exchange events, promoting ceramics as a modern, versatile, sustainable, and innovative art medium.
